Totally need to do this this weekend

Seriously. It's been almost 7 weeks since I moved (and, you know, a few more than that since I've blogged... but who's counting?). And my beautifully large closet is still in a total disarray. That will all change this weekend though. No traveling. No holy matrimonies. No out of town guests.

Just me. And my closet.

Heaven, help me.

Some days...

Some days, you just need to see a fluffy dog catching a ride on top of a turtle...

Today is one of those days. Happy Friday!

Winter Song

Winter has slowly been settling into the city for a few weeks now - Christmas trees are lining the sidewalks, ready to overtake tiny apartments. Buildings from 5th Ave. to the West Village are covered in twinkle lights. The first snowflakes came down in perfect little flurries (on my birthday, no less!). And the second I stepped outside into the wind chill of 16 degrees this morning, all snuggled up in my puffer jacket, I knew winter was here to stay.

And thanks to Jamie, I have the perfect winter song for you, NYC:
Happy wintry Friday! I hope your weekends are filled with hot cocoa and cuddling. :)

Missed Connections

I love, love, LOVE this blog. I've been following Missed Connections for awhile, and Sophie recently posted this video about her project. I love her imagination and the way she brings these "unfinished stories" to life in such a unique way...

"I think there's that feeling for a lot of people that any tiny moment could set your life on a different course. And there's that 'What if?' that is enormously appealing, I think, and universal, that your morning commute might change... everything."

Painting the Town... Purple.

Don't let all of the pink or the constant talk of cupcakes and cute fuzzy animals fool you. Sure, I may not always be the sportiest girl in the world, but when it comes to my Horned Frogs, I bleed purple.

As TCU has climbed the rankings all season and gained more and more attention, it's gotten harder and harder to not to be in Fort Worth for the games. This is the first year since I moved to New York that I wasn't able to make it back for Homecoming, and there's a Texas-sized hole in my heart without my fill of Horned Frog Football.

So after ESPN's College GameDay announced that they're coming to TCU this Saturday for the FIRST TIME EVER, I immediately started scouring the internet for semi-reasonable flights. Then Nike announced they designed snazzy new uniforms for the game, complete with a horned frog skin print and red lines symbolizing "the blood that shoots from the horned frog's eyes when under attack" (I know, precious, right?)! Mayor Moncrief even proclaimed today as "Go Purple Day" in Fort Worth! It seemed like missing the big game against #14 Utah just wasn't an option...

Sadly, my fiscally responsible side ended up prevailing (for once) so I won't be among the expected 47,000 plus fans in the sold-out Amon Carter Stadium. But you can sure count on me to be cheering my little heart out for our #4 Froggies right here from NYC. Pink might be my favorite color the rest of the year, but in the fall, there's nothing like the regal hue of TCU purple!

"Fort Worth has been waiting a long time. My goal is to someday get to where we don’t break Fort Worth’s and Frogs fans’ hearts. I’m going to try not to break those hearts in these next three weeks."
-Coach Gary Patterson

I Want to Go to There. Now.

Happy happy Friday! Universal Orlando revealed more details this week about the opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter... Oh. Yes. Needless to say, I may have spent the last few days geeking out watching the below video of 3-D renderings of the theme park on repeat...

Weeee!!! Now if only I had a magic wand so that I could make Spring 2010 get here immediately... Kidding. Kind of.

Baby just say, "Yes."

I love Taylor Swift. Her music aside, everything about her is just stinking adorable. A co-worker tried to tease me about my cowboy boots and "y'all's" awhile back by calling me Taylor Swift... imagine his surprise when I squealed with delight and thanked him for the most fabulous of compliments! Jamie, LJ and I even got to meet her a few months ago at a Rolling Stone luncheon. Between her killer purple heels from Top Shop and her bubbly personality, I left plotting a master plan to become her new BFF...

So it's no surprise that when Taylor just Tweet-ed about "an awesome cover of Love Story" by a guy with a "beautiful voice," I clicked through immediately... and discovered this week's Happy Friday! Happy Video! Yessss...

The artist, Gabe, rewrote the lyrics of Taylor's "Love Story" so that it's from Romeo's perspective instead of Juliet's:
Juliet I'll save you, they'll never come between us
Just hold on and love is gonna free us
Don't be afraid, oh we'll make it through this
It's a love story... Baby, just say, "Yes."

The cute spin on the story, combined with Gabe's dreamy voice, pretty much made my heart melt... Sigh.

Hope you enjoy and Happy Friday!

Dancing Elephants

"It's 4:15pm... and I just noticed that my shirt is on backward..."

Melissa, the delightful girl I share a polyester cubicle wall with at work, pretty much summed up the last week to a tee with that realization. A few other words come to mind to describe it, but in the interest of brevity and keeping PTTP PG-friendly, I'll just go with hers. And maybe just one more: Riiiiiidiculous.

It was a week of long, long hours. We've all been there (or at least, that's what my New York friends and I keep telling ourselves... that the crazy, mixed up demands of working in this city are somehow... "normal"...ha. But gotta love it though, right?). Nights that somehow turn into the next morning. All but one or two lunches/dinners at the non-comfort of your desk. Fire drill after fire drill. Getting ready in the morning, thanking your lucky stars it's finally Friday because you woke up to a killer cold... and then realizing that no. It's... Tuesday. Sigh.

That's not to say that this week wasn't without it's silver linings, because trust me... it was. And more on those to come, sooner or later I'm sure... :) However, the point of this post is to make just one point: I. am. tired.

And all I wanted out of tonight was a glass of pinot noir, a good movie, and sleep. Blissful, pre-midnight sleep. So here I am in bed, ready to turn out the light after sneaking in a few chapters of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince when... they start: the Elephants. They apparently occupy the apartment above mine and they've decided to make themselves known again tonight. And these aren't just any Elephants, mind you. They are DANCING Elephants. Well at least, they better be putting on a stinking Riverdance up there for how much ruckus they're causing!

Ok, I get it. My complaining about "ruckus" before 1:00 am on a Friday night in the City that never sleeps probably (read: definitely) earns me all sorts of Lame Points. But every now and then you just need a night in, ya know? A quiet night to yourself to unwind from the week. A night without any craziness or small-talk at the bar or... Elephants.

So, dear Elephants of Apt 5C, if you happen to read this tonight, would you ever so kindly hold off on your dance rehearsal for the rest of the night? Just this once? And tomorrow, by all means - go to town. Heck, I'll even buy you all pretty new tutus for your next recital! Thanks for understanding. xoxo

(Ok, ok. I know those are Dancing Hippos. But I'm sleepy. And they're cute.)

"Maybe Make a Little Magic in the Moonlight"

I know this makes me even more of a cliche of a girl than I already am (as though the pink-themed blog and constant discussion of delicious sugary treats weren't enough...), but it has to be said:

Kris Allen?! A. Dor. A. Ble.

Then the American Idol gods go and pair him with the charming Keith Urban and his precious single "Kiss a Girl"... Y'all, I just didn't even stand a chance! I was so busy swooning during the performance last night that I'm surprised I didn't fall right off of the eliptical machine...

Siiigh... Right?? I mean, I know the debate will go on for awhile about who really "deserved" to win (for the record, I totally heart Adam too), but you just can't deny Kris' uber dreamboat factor... And I'll be sure to report back on how well it translates in PERSON after I meet him (and Adam!!) at a Rolling Stone lunch on Tuesday... Weeee! Can. Not. Wait.

Oh, and my office is closed tomorrow for the long weekend (yayyy!), so have a Happy (Pseudo) Friday!

It's Not a Video, But...

... this new blog is so amazing that I think it's worth Happy Friday! Happy Video(ish)! status:

Seriously, out of control funny. My section of cubicles is just a bunch of uncontrollable giggles right now because we can't stop scrolling...

The majority of the photos are just good clean fun, however I apologize in advance (Mom :) ) for any PG-13 pictures and/or comments - silly user submitted content can get a little risque at times.

And thanks to my lovely friend Christine for the fabulous find, all the way from Dallas! AND she'll be invading NYC in just two weeks!! Perhaps we'll take some Awkward Fam Photos of our own while she's here... Ahhhh Juice in the City, Part II... Can. Not. Wait!

How Many Days Until July 17??

84. Yep. Just 84 short days until the long-awaited July 17th premiere of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince!! And considering I'll probably nerd out and go to the Midnight Showing Thursday night/Friday morning with Lauren and my other wizard-loving friends, I suppose we could knock it down to 83... Can. Not. WAIT!

So for your Happy Friday! Happy Video! viewing pleasure, I give you the latest and greatest trailer that was released last week. This one steers clear of all of the gloom and doom in the sixth book and instead focuses on the romantic (read as: teenage angsty) storylines in the Best. Series. Ever... Yesssss!

"[This movie is] about sex, potions and rock 'n' roll... It's a wonderfully fun, slightly rebellious, quite naughty stage of teenage life." -Half-Blood Prince director David Yates... o.m.goodness.

The Xylopholks

I've been hanging on to these videos all week because, A. I've been in something of a funk and needed time to mourn NYC's loss(es) and, B. I think this whole "Happy Friday! Happy Video!" thing might just become a regular feature here at PTTP (see how I just referred to my blog with an acronym?! OMGoodness. Things are getting serious...)

It's without further ado that I give you, The Xylopholks (Thanks again to Daily Intel for these finds! If for some silly reason you don't already follow NY Mag's DI, start immediately. Seriously, it's fabulous.):

I mean, just the chance of starting my morning by running into these guys almost makes me want to start using public transportation for my commute... Ha, emphasis on the "almost."

Happy Friday, y'all!
