On the events of this weekend...

... via a 3-day long Group BBM, which by the way, was probably our best discovery, ummm... ever:

twentysomething 1: Get out of the corner. Do the "bend and snap."

twentysomething 2: I should wear cardigans to bars more often, I guess!
twentysomething 1: The cardigan is totes the new little black dress.

twentysomething 1: You're dangling fun in my face like a tortured puppy.

twentysomething 3: You flirt with boys. I flirt with poles. NO. BIG. DEAL.

Kites, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness

As many of you might recall, NYC lost a couple of its really good ones this past Spring. I pretty much started a countdown to Kristen and/or Alyssa's return the second their planes took off.

So when Alyssa told me a couple months ago that she: A. got a great new job (wee!), and B. wanted one of her first big splurges to be a trip back to the City, well, let's just say there was much skipping and squealing down Third Avenue that day. And the best part? She was coming in for the weekend of Megan's Half Marathon in Philly! This clearly meant only one thing, two syllables:

Road. Trip.

By the time our double decker bus rolled out of Penn Station at 9:15 the Saturday morning before last, Meg had an entourage of 8 of us girls. We were ready for a touristy-and-fun-filled trip to the City of Brotherly Love, armed with Pumpkin Spice Starbucks and maybe just a bit too much luggage for an overnight trip. As we flipped through our NY Mag's, Glamour's, and In Style Weddings' (ok, I guess that was just Amy...) we tallied up our collective goals for the trip:
  • Carbing up with Megan Cheering Megan on, obviously!
  • Pictures. Lots. Of. Pictures.
  • The Liberty Bell (more specifically, "Kiting" it with Tracey and/or Amy, my fellow Thetas on the trip. Kidding. But not.)
  • Reid Rosenthal (See him? Hug him? Marry him? All of the above him?)
  • Running up the Rocky steps, even though I'm pretty sure none of us have seen any of the movies... meh.
  • Philly Cheesesteaks? For sure. Cheez Whiz? Undecided.
  • Avoiding any and all people dressed in costumes
  • Brunchy brunch brunch
I'm happy to report that in our 29 or so hours in Philadelphia, we successfully checked just about everything off our lists, and then some. These photos can't possibly do all of the giggles and delicious calories justice, but here's a peek at one of the best weekends ever:

Oh, well hello there, Reid. Thanks for welcoming us to Philly... Alyssa and I will now fight for your affections.

Despite our best efforts, we hadn't been wandering historical Philly for more than 20 minutes when we ran into our first Costume Situation. Sorry Meg. We tried.

Oh yes. Yes, we did. Theta Love.

I really do love history.

"Hey guys. Give me your best Patriotic Pose..."

I may or may not have Googled "Chick-fil-A, Philadelphia" within 10 minutes of checking-in to our hotel... NYC doesn't know what it's missing.

Cheers to Meg! Sure, she may have been in bed at this point, but it's the thought that counts.

Check out those pink (Meg) and blue (Stephanie) shorts go!

The Cheering Section

Theta Love for Megan! (p.s. two Kites in one trip?! Oh, I'm a happy girl.)

Meow (Video to come... Get excited.)

Feel the Burn

Jamie joined me in a grand/painful adventure today: My very first Spinning class! Ok, I know what you're thinking. Let's just take a moment and get it out of our systems... All together now!

You spin me right round, Baby. Right round like a record, Baby. Right round, round, round...

Yessss! Ok, so fabulous '80s YouTube inspiration aside... Y'all! Spinning was HARD. CORE. I'm not sure I could even begin to describe the intensity of the workout we endured, so instead I'll just share the 'reassuring' words our instructor had for me after class (I was one of only two newbies in the room, so I think she probably just wanted to make sure I wasn't about to pass out and/or cry at the end... success!):

"Well, the good news is... I promise your body will never be more uncomfortable than it is at this very moment! NEVER! For the rest of your life!"
-NYSC Spinning Guru

Ummmm, thank you? Question mark?? Regardless of the fact that I can safely say this was one of my Best. Workouts. Ever... I personally think 'good news' would be if she had handed me one of THESE delicious morsels at the end of the class... Grilled Cheesecake. O.M.Goodness! Now that is what I call motivation. ;)

How Many Days Until July 17??

84. Yep. Just 84 short days until the long-awaited July 17th premiere of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince!! And considering I'll probably nerd out and go to the Midnight Showing Thursday night/Friday morning with Lauren and my other wizard-loving friends, I suppose we could knock it down to 83... Can. Not. WAIT!

So for your Happy Friday! Happy Video! viewing pleasure, I give you the latest and greatest trailer that was released last week. This one steers clear of all of the gloom and doom in the sixth book and instead focuses on the romantic (read as: teenage angsty) storylines in the Best. Series. Ever... Yesssss!

"[This movie is] about sex, potions and rock 'n' roll... It's a wonderfully fun, slightly rebellious, quite naughty stage of teenage life." -Half-Blood Prince director David Yates... o.m.goodness.

An Epic Debate

I saw this ad online the other day. You better believe I would've clicked through (had I not just been creeping over Lauren's shoulder when it came up and immediately demanded she send me a screenshot...)

Ha! Best. Ad. Ever. It's basically the story of my life... Edward vs. Harry?? Harry vs. Edward?! OMGoodness! I mean, how is a girl to decide between two such delightfully delicious, magically fictitious boys??

Sigh. Thoughts?? Anyone? Or maybe I'm alone in this tortuous struggle...

Glamour Circa 1939

I was spoiled at my last job with stacks upon stacks of my fave magazines at my disposal. If I wasn't on a comp list, I could always skip on over to my friends in Print and find the latest issue I was lusting after (*cough, cough* December '08 Vanity Fair with the hotter than hot Twilight photoshoot *cough, cough*). Needless to say, I've been going through withdrawls lately without my regular glossy-paged fix of all things celeb/fashion/entertainment/NYC. So imagine my excitement when I discovered this fantastic offer:

Glamour is celebrating it's 70th Birthday by offering an annual subscription at its 1939 pricing: $1.50! For an ENTIRE YEAR! For anyone keeping track, that's less than $0.13 per issue... Thirteen cents! I mean, that even beats the greatest deal I've found in all of NYC (a single banana at Trader Joe's for only $0.19, fyi) by more than a nickel.

Who's kinda loving the recession now??

As far as I can tell, there isn't a catch. You just have to unsubscribe in 12 months if you don't want to receive another year-long subscription... Which is the case with most magazines anyway. And Glamour even sends you a notice 60 days prior to remind you of the automatic renewal.

Seriously. Best. Deal. Ever.

But hurry up and subscribe away, my friends... The $1.50 offer ends March 15th. Happy Reading!
